Loading

Also called extra premium, rating up.

An increase to the standard premium, reflecting a risk the insurer has assessed as higher.

A loading is a higher price for an identified reason — a health condition, a hazardous occupation, or build outside the usual range.

Being loaded is not a rejection. It means the insurer has understood the risk and priced it, which is a considerably better outcome than a policy issued on a misunderstanding and contested at claim.
