Any communication that promotes an insurer or its products, and which requires the insurer's prior approval.

Under the current regulations, material issued by a distribution channel that refers to a specific insurer, policy, benefit or cost is an advertisement, and needs the insurer’s prior written approval before it is issued.

Generic material — an intermediary’s own identity, experience, qualifications, and the availability of lines of insurance — falls outside that requirement.
